Calling all Members Without a Sailboat!

Published 7:01am on 6 Sep 2024

Hey Indianapolis Sailing Club Associate Members, don't have a sailboat?  No problem!  You can still get on the water without the investment of purchasing and maintaining a boat of your own.  Here are your opportunities to get on the water and enjoy our club and our lake:

Crew on a sailboat - don't worry if you don't have sailing experience, most skippers will take on inexperienced crew and train them.  There's almost nothing more valuable than crew, so you will be in-demand as you gain experience.  If you aren't sure about racing but would still like a ride on a sailboat, most of our keelboat skippers will take an extra crew.  You will be comfortable and mostly dry (unless it rains!) on a keelboat.  Show up at the water-front around 5:30 pm on Wednesdays or noon on Sundays and just ask around.  There is a good chance you will find a place on a sailboat.  You can also sign up to be crew here on the club website and skippers will contact you:  Crew Finder

Unable to find a ride on a sailboat?  No worries, you can still get out on the water by joining a mark boat or the race committee.

Volunteer to help on a Mark Boat and set marks for the races - Mark boats are typically staffed with two people, one to drive and the other to set and retrieve race course marks.  If you have a valid Indiana drivers license you are eligible to drive one of our Boston Whaler power boats.  We will train you, so no experience necessary and you will also be a coveted volunteer.

You can volunteer to drive or help on a Mark boat by registering on the club website here:  Sign up for Mark Boat Duty

Just want to be on the water and enjoy the evening or afternoon, but don't want the responsibility of being crew?  You can volunteer to help the race committee put on races.  Again, no experience is required and we will train you.  You will be able to enjoy the on-water action from our large pontoon boat, the "Mary Morse".

You can sign up to volunteer to help the Race Committee on the club website here:  Sign up for Race Committee Duty

Come on out to join with your other club members in enjoying the water and the club!  We'll help you get on the water and have some fun!
