Sailing Camp FAQs

Where is the camp?

The Address is 11325 Fall Creek Road, Indianapolis IN 46256

The camp is held on the grounds of the Indianapolis Sailing Club, located where Brookschool Road dead ends at the road-about with Fall Creek Road. After you come in the gate turn right and go to the top of the hill.

What to bring to camp?

Coast guard approved PFD (life jacket), lunch, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a swimsuit are required. We will be on the water everyday so make sure you send your kids with clothing that can get wet, shoes that can get wet, a hat, and a towel are also recommended. Additionally please label your campers belongings so if they are left behind we can return them by the end of the week.

What kind of life jacket does my child need and where can I find one?

Any coast guard approved PFD can be used at camp. It is important to get the correct size for your child based on their age and weight. The life jacket should fit snugly while not being too tight, and if the life jacket can be pulled up above your child's ears, it is too big. Life jackets can be found at most big box stores ie Walmart

What does drop off and pick up look like?

Drop off for camp is from 8:30-9:00 am at the top of the hill where the clubhouse is. You cannot drop off your children any earlier than 8:30 and you will be required to stay with them until staff is on duty at 8:30. Pick up is from 4:00-4:30 pm at the bottom of the hill near the large oak tree, unless there is rain or bad weather then pick up will be at the clubhouse where drop off is. Please be mindful of our staff's time and pick up your children no later than 4:30, campers are not allowed to remain on the grounds by themselves and a late fee will be charged if they are being picked up late.

If your child is being picked up by another adult, please leave an email at michelle.sarber@gmail.com or leave a note with the camp staff at drop off.

What do we do on rainy days?

Sailing camp will still be held if there is rain or bad weather. Even if we cannot sail, we have plenty of indoor rainy day activities that include sailing games, knot tying, and lessons about the weather. Additionally, we do have a shelter in place plan in case of a tornado.

Can my child walk or bike to camp?

If your child is walking/biking to or from camp an email or note with parental permission to do so is required.

When should my child attend camp?

Please do your best to schedule camp where your child does not have any conflicts or appointments, but we will do our best to be accommodating. Please let us know in advance if your child needs to be picked up early or dropped off late, but we would prefer your child get a full day of sailing fun and experience. Call 317-445-1118 to reach the clubhouse. Also please don't bring your child to camp if they are sick.

Attending with a friend?

If your child is attending with a friend let the staff know at drop off and we will do our best to have them sail together!

Award ceremony Friday?

Every Friday at 3:00pm up at the clubhouse we have an award ceremony celebrating a fun week of camp and the accomplishments of the campers. Throughout the week campers are given the opportunity to show off their sailing skills and knowledge and earn ranks and ribbons awarding their hard work. Parents, siblings, friends, and other family members are welcome to watch and enjoy our Friday ceremony.
