WOW Regatta

The WOW Regatta takes place each year in late July or August. It's distinguished from other Club regattas in that all women skippers have their hand on the helm. All boats operate as a Portsmouth Fleet with PHRF scoring. The race features a generous start line and depending on the numbers of skippers, there are two starts, one for (smaller) dinghies and the other for the (larger) keelboats. The course is a 1-lap triangle, and, for simplicity, spinnakers are not allowed.

These races are open to any ISC Woman member in good standing or club guest (with the Commodore's permission). If you do not own your own boat, ask an ISC member or ISC Training Director Michelle Sarber if a Club Sunfish or Interlake is available.

Women's sailboat racing has a rich history at the Indianapolis Sailing Club. The first women's regatta where women take the helm with crews of men or women, was held in 1959 with a Portsmouth Fleet. In 1971, the regatta grew to the next level of competition where women competed single-handed in Lasers.
