The ISC Academy Adult Training Program was started to promote the activity of sailing and provide people of all skill
levels with a supportive environment to learn how to sail. Whether you are new to sailing or want to build on your existing
skills, the Adult Training program is here to help you. Sailing is great for all generations; it doesnt take long to learn the
basics but can take a lifetime to master. One of the lesser-known facts about sailing is there isnt just one type of sailing!
From racing around the buoys to cruising the Islands, or joining the dock party, there are many ways to enjoy this hobby.
At the ISC Academy we are here to help get you started building skills and confidence to become part of the sailing
community. Now is as good a time as any to join us and start your sailing journey.
Our goal is to provide you with the support to confidently day-sail and have a great experience for you to enjoy the world
of sailing. The programs curriculum 2026 Curriculum and knowledgeable instructors guide you through practical skills
development to safely get started sailing. Additionally, in 2026 the program is launching an online, self-paced learning
platform you can leverage to find opportunities to learn, to sail, access lesson material on demand, and track your
progress.
Learning a new skill takes time, energy and commitment. The program offers a mix of OnShore/Online skill
development and OnWater practice to provide you with a variety of options to learn on a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
Once you complete the Onshore component of the training program its time for you to get on the water and put your new
skills into practice. The coaching team is here to get you going and get you on course. The program has an array of boats
from small boats to keel boats we will work with you to find the right sailing platform for you.
2026 training sessions will be 6-9 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays from June through August Individual sessions schedules
may change for holidays and based on participation. The program uses several different types of boats such as the
Interlake, Sunfish, and J24.
The course consists of 4 components.
1) Attending one of the monthly required orientation sessions (exceptions may be made)
2) Plan to attend 2-4 Classroom training sessions
3) Attend up to 4 On the water training sessions
4) Complete sailboat usage proficiency evaluation
Participants that successfully complete the program and demonstrate proficiency will be approved to use club boats and
equipment outside the structured training sessions per the [Club Boat Use] policy.
Club Boat Use Policy
Adult ISC Members must complete the adult training curriculum and/or obtain proficiency approval from the training
director or designated instructor by demonstrating their proficiency. Additionally, a safety boat must be on the water and In
service for the ISC club boats to be available for use. Additionally, for use of the J24 also a minimum crew of three (3)
approved Adult ISC Members is required.
Adult ISC Members seeking to use club boats during an appropriate time must have also demonstrated to the training
director or designated instructor the ability to complete the activities below.
1. Understanding of general sailing and right of way principles
2. Rig & De-rig the boat
3. Capsize Recovery drill and swim test
4. Launching the boat and sailing out of the harbor & back
5. Docking and hauling out the boat
6. Putting away equipment appropriately
7. Clear understanding of ISCA Sailboat use policies and procedures
8. Complete ISCA Sailboat Usage Waiver
No exceptions, for any reason. This policy is non-negotiable, the policy is for the safety of you, the equipment, and the
club.
