The Snipe is a 15.5" dinghy with a 2 person crew and is a ton of fun to sail. Used boats are readily available and older boats can be competitive with those right off the line. The Snipe was one of the original boat classes at ISC. "Serious Sailing, Serious Fun" is the motto for the Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA) and holds true throughout the world, especially here at the Indianapolis Sailing Club, Fleet 409 enjoys a variety of on and off the water activities from races on Geist to travel regattas throughout the Midwest as well as social gatherings including hosting club events. Starting in 2017 our annual spring Indiana Open Snipe Regatta was combined with the Spring Laser Regatta and formed the "Windy 500" Regatta. This dual class regatta format gathers more sailors for one event which maximizes the fun on and off the water.

The Snipe is a fabulous boat for all ages! Our fleet has five decades represented with various levels of racing experience. A Snipe keeps you close to the water and maneuvers well even in light air. During the sailing season we enjoy Sunday afternoon and Wednesday night racing in addition to three Saturday morning Mini-Regattas. The Wednesday night races and Mini-Regattas offer a change from the Sunday racing format as well as more camaraderie while enjoying burgers and dogs after coming off the water. We also get together in the off season. As a reflection of our group being young at heart, we have added a monitor to our fleet bulletin board. This allows us to more readily install updates and share our fun with you. Come join us!!
