Keelboat
Captain: Matt Russ
The Keelboat Fleet was formed in 2000 as part of the ISC Portsmouth Fleet. 12 docks were initially placed in Thistle Bay. This location provided little protection from the prevailing winds and waves and the Keelboat docks were moved to the current location in 2001.
The fleet has grown substantially and is now the largest fleet at ISC. Keelboat members enjoy active racing and social events. This year we are planning numerous social events. We encourage all of our members to get out on the water together and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow sailors, families and friends. Our fleet has been involved in serving at the Summer Shrimp Boil (the largest event at ISC) for many years! On many evenings, several fleet members can be found around a campfire trading stories of sailing adventures. Make plans to join us and meet new sailors and friends.
Keelboat sailors participate in all of the organized racing at ISC. From the Club Regattas and Sunday races, to the Keelboat Regattas and Wednesday Night racing, you will find many sailors from the fleet at the helm or crewing on a variety of boats.
Wednesday Racing is growing in popularity and you are encouraged to join the fun! There are several different racing formats to suit the variety of skill levels and interests within our fleet. All scoring is per the US Sailing PHRF system. This provides a level and fair scoring method regardless of boat size and speed. After racing or cruising the lake, join the growing crowd of ISC sailors for Burgers & Dogs under the oak tree.
If you have questions about how to get involved, suggestions for additional events, or ideas of how we can improve as a fleet at ISC, please don't hesitate to contact me. We look forward to seeing everyone on the docks and out on the lake.
