Thistle Fleet #69 was founded in 1955 as one of the original fleets of ISC and has remained active ever since. Our fleet has over 18 boats as members, and a fleet boat ready for guests to use. We host two invitational regattas each year; the 8-Ball in April, and the Naptown in September. During 2020, 9 boats participated in nearly 50 races on weekends, and almost as many during the Wednesday night racing series. Our fleet has a diverse range of racing experience from novice to those who have participated in Nationals and Mid-Winter Championships. We have an active social agenda aside from sailing with monthly night out or meet-ups.
The Thistle is a very light 17' open cockpit round-bottomed boat that serves both as a family daysailer or nimble, powerful racer. She is particularly good in light air (which we get at Geist sometimes) due to her high sail area to weight ratio, which makes her exciting to sail in any conditions.
Thistles have experienced a resurgence lately, with many new boats having been built in recent years, now numbering well over 4,000, and active fleets across the country. It is a very active and healthy class with frequent regattas and plenty of 2nd and 3rd generation Thistle sailors.
Please come out and discover why we love Thistles! We are always looking for additional crew and guest skippers!
